Green Libraries Week 2025 – Go Green at Your Local Library
Libraries Week is an annual celebration of everything our libraries do to improve people’s lives. This year, it takes place from 27th October to 2nd November 2025, with the exciting theme “Go Green at the Library.”
That means, alongside celebrating all the usual benefits of libraries, we’ll also be looking at how our libraries are supporting sustainability and helping fight climate change. From recycling projects to green activities, and ideas for living in an eco-friendlier way, there’s something for everyone. Many people across the county will be joining in, so why not get involved too?
Why are libraries important?
Libraries aren’t just about borrowing books. They are safe community spaces where you can:
- Use free internet and digital support
- Find quiet study spaces
- Join workshops to learn new skills
- Meet others through clubs and events
- Enjoy story sessions and activities for all ages
They are open to everyone, whatever your age or experience, and offer a friendly space to learn new things, meet people, and build confidence.
How can you get involved with Green Libraries Week 2025?
During Green Libraries Week, many local libraries are running special activities. These include:
- Reading challenges about nature and the environment
- Workshops on recycling or re-using materials
- Talks on sustainability, climate action and green living
- Family activities to help children learn about caring for the planet
Even trying just one activity could give you new ideas and skills. It’s also a great way to meet people and discover what your local library has to offer!
Why join in?
By taking part, you can:
- Learn new skills (like digital or eco-friendly practices)
- Build your knowledge and confidence
- Meet new people in your community
- Take small steps to help the environment
Libraries are there to support you explore, learn, and grow. This October, your local library could be the perfect place to start something new.
