Celebrate World Book Night: How You Can Get Involved
World Book Night – April 23rd, 2025
- Night light Cafes in Bourne, Gainsborough, Grantham, Holbeach, Long Sutton, Market Rasen and Spalding
- HMP North Sea Camp
- Lincolnshire Action Trust
- Branston Infants, Hawthorn Tree Primary School and Coningsby Primary School
- Ermine Library
Attendees were encouraged to visit one of the Night Light events on 23rd April to borrow a Quick Read and start their reading journey.
From 7 – 8pm on the same day, many joined the Reading Agency’s #ReadingHour in celebration of World Book Night. Take your book home or enjoy reading at one of the local cafes. It’s the perfect hour to take a break, focus on yourself, and escape into a book, magazine, comic book, or anything else that caught their interest!
We can all use a break now and then. What did you read?
Did you know that 1 in 3 adults (31%) in England don’t regularly read for pleasure, and the figure rises to 1 in 2 (46%) for young people?
The Reading Agency’s annual World Book Night continued to celebrate reading for pleasure and encouraged conversations about books, inviting everyone to spend time reading. World Book Night supported the entire reading journey and remained accessible for everyone, offering something for everyone, from less-confident readers to those who read regularly. It was a community celebration that brings people together to share the joy of reading.
World Book Night Success
Here were just a few of the great activities that took place for World Book Night across the county, thanks to Adult & Family Learning’s Quick Read donations. Interest has now been sparked to set up permanent book clubs in some of the county’s Night Light Cafés and local communities.
We were even lucky enough to promote the event on Hive FM radio!
Gainsborough Night Light Café
“Here were a few photos from our reading night. Most of our guests picked up a book and started to read while we had a brew. It got us talking about the books we had picked and how, moving forward, we would like to do a regular book swap. Thank you for all your help in this and for giving us a fun evening.”
For those who couldn’t make it to one of the locations, Lincolnshire Libraries also donated a range of Quick Reads to local food banks. Keep an eye out for these books at your nearest food bank!
Would you like to set up your own reading group?
Lincolnshire Libraries offer a subscription service where groups pay just £40 per year and receive monthly book sets delivered to their local library for collection. Some groups even meet in other local libraries to discuss their latest read. Lincolnshire Libraries can also recommend websites and resources to help you gain insights and ideas for running your group.
It is easy to start – just pop along to your local library and ask how they can support your reading group or join one of our adult learning classes across the county!
